Day 1 2 cups salt,1 gallon water, boil, pour over cucumbers boiling hot. Let stand 7 days, skimming if needed. Drain and rinse several times.

Day 8 1 tablespoon alum,1 gallon water boil, pour over cucumbers, do this fresh 3 days, rinse well.

Day 11 Heat 6 cups vinegar, 5 cups sugar, 1/3 cup pickling spice, 1 tablespoon celery seed pour over pickles hot.
Day 12 Drain liquid into pot, add 2 1/2 cups sugar, boil again.
Day 13 Drain Liquid into pot and add 1 1/2 cups sugar let it boil down some.
Day 14 Drain Liquid into pot and add 1 cup sugar, let it boil down some more.

Put pickles into jars and pour hot liquid over and put lids on to seal Wipe tops good so it will seal.
