(Grandma left a mystery. Her recipe didn’t have a title so I’m not sure what type of food it makes. It could be cookies, cake or bread. But it does appear she was trying to list recipes in “chapters”, the recipe appears in a section with cookies. So I’ll include this in the cookies chapter. But it could be baked in other forms.)

Boil water and raisins 5 minutes, let cool. Cream shortening, add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beat until combined. Add vanilla, mix until combined. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Slowly add to creamed mixture, mixing until combined. Fold in raisin mixture and nuts. Let stand a few minutes after together. Bake in 400ºF oven. (There were no directions for baking so I’ve supplemented from other recipes.)

Raisin Spice Cookies
Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease baking sheet. Scoop batter onto prepared baking sheet, using a spoon or cookie scoop. Bake 10-12 minutes, or until light golden brown. Cool on baking sheet 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.

Raisin Spice Cake
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour 9” x 13” pan. Pour batter into prepared pan, spread evenly. Bake 45-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Allow cake to cool before serving.

Raisin Spice Bread
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 9” x 5” x 3” loaf pan. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 50-60 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center of loaf comes out clean. Let cool 10 minutes before removing from pan, transfer to cooling rack to cool completely before slicing.
