Ingredients: 1 cup chopped onion 1 green pepper, chopped or cut into strips 2 tbsp butter 1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef 1 tsp. seasoned salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 tbsp. sugar 1 quart tomatoes (or 2 cans diced tomatoes -- 14.5 oz each) 1 can tomato sauce 2 cups water 1 package (8 oz) uncooked wide egg noodles 8 oz. mozzarella cheese, sliced

Directions:In Dutch oven or large frying pan, saute onion and green pepper in 2 tablespoons butter for 3 minutes. Add ground beef. Brown. Add seasoned salt, pepper and sugar. Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce and water. Heat meat mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
In 9x13 baking pan, layer tomato-meat mixture and noodles. (Note: Make certain noodles are well covered with sauce.) Top with mozzarella. Cover pan with aluminum foil. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.
Cut and serve as for lasagna. |

Notes: This was not my grandma's recipe, but I got it from Eleanor Ostman, who had a column in the Pioneer Press. Ken really likes this, so I have started making it regularly.
When I use ground beef that is 85-15 rather than extra lean, I drain the grease after browning the ground beef and before adding the seasonings.
