1 cup scalded milk

4 Tbsp. sugar
6 cups or more sifted flour
1 egg well beaten
6 level Tbsp. shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Pour yeast into cup lukewarm water and one teaspoon sugar. Stir and let stand for five minutes. Put scalded milk, salt and remaining sugar into mixing bowl. Stir until dissolved and let cool. When milk is lukewarm, add softened yeast and three cups flour. Beat until smooth.
Next, add beaten egg, warm melted shortening, and enough flour to make rather soft dough. Knead until smooth. Place in covered greased bowl, and let rise in warm place until doubled. Turn dough onto floured board, roll out until 1/2 inch thick, and cut with large biscuit cutter.
If wanted for frankfurters (hotdogs) stretch the rounds lengthwise. Place about 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet and let rise to double in size. Makes about 24. Bake about 20 minutes in a hot oven 400º to 425º. When done brush tops with melted shortening (butter).
