12 eggs, beaten smooth
2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
2 quarts whole milk
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pint whipping cream, whipped
nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
1. Mix milk, baking soda, and salt in heavy dutch oven. Heat to scolding, do not boil.
2. Add sugar mixed with corn starch to heating milk.
3. Reduce to low heat, add eggs stirring constantly with wooden spoon until thicken, about 1 hour.
4. Cool at room temperature, stirring occasionally. Add vanilla. Refrigerate.
5. Serve topped with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle of nutmeg.
