½ cup soft shortening
⅔ cup sugar
2 egg yolks
½ cup molasses
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
⅔ cup milk
2 egg whites
1 cup chopped dates
½ cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together the shortening, sugar, egg yolks, and molasses. Mix well.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add alternately with milk.
Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into batter.
Add chopped dates and nuts.
Pour into greased loaf pan and bake @ 350 for 45 minutes.
