3¼ c flour
1 t baking powder
¼ t soda
1 t salt
1 t vanilla
⅔ c granulated sugar
1 c brown sugar
1 c shortening
2 eggs
1 c nuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
In large bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla.
In smaller bowl, mix flour, baking powder, soda, salt and stir into sugar/shortening mix.
Stir in nuts. Shape dough into a roll so it can be sliced for cookies. Chill dough in refrigerator. To bake: Preheat oven to 400º. Slice cookies and place on cookie sheet. Bake 6 to 8 minutes. Variations:
Spice Cookies: Add 1 t cinnamon, ½ cloves, ¼ nutmeg, omit nuts
Chocolate Cookies: Add 4 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted & cooled.
