½ cup shortening (can use butter)
½ cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 beaten egg
1½ tsp vanilla
1 cup of flour
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
½ cup chopped nuts
1 6oz. package of chocolate chips

This recipe can be doubled

Directions:

Cream butter or shortening in mixer
Add sugars and cream until blended
Add egg and vanilla and mix well

In a separate bowl mix flour, salt and baking soda
Gradually mix flour into wet mix
Add nuts and chocolate chips

Onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment or un greased put drop batter by generous tablespoon, teaspoon or small ice cream scoop (whatever size cookie you prefer) 2 " apart

Bake in preheated 375º oven for 10-12 minutes or browned lightly on top.
Cool on wire rack

Joanie had several copies of Bernice's cookies. We don't know who Bernice was but apparently my Mom liked her version of the cookie. Her note on recipe card says " crisp & tasty"
