Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 egg
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup packed brown sugar
½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened to room temperature
1½ cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips OR M&M's or toffee bits

Directions:
Directions:
Heat the oven to 375º

Cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until well combined and light in color. Crack the egg into the bowl and mix with a wooden spoon until well combined. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt to the butter/sugar/egg mixture. Stir with a spoon until well-mixed. Stir the chocolate chips into the dough.

Drop 12 rounded tablespoons of dough onto a cookie sheet (you do not need to grease the cookie sheet, but if you use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, the bottoms of the cookies won't get as dark.)

Bake 10-12 minutes or until cookies are light brown. Cool cookies on the cookie sheets for 1 minute. Using a spatula, transfer them to a wire cooling rack to finish cooling

Another recipe from the Betty Crocker Kids Cookbook and one of the first recipes both the kids started making. This is also a great base cookie dough with other add-ins. Form balls and roll in a cinnamon-sugar mixture (without chocolate chips!) for a snickerdoodle. Roll the dough into a log shape, wrap in plastic wrap, and freeze for slice-and-bake cookie dough.
