3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add molasses and egg.
Beat Well.
Sift together flour, salt & spices.
Add to first mixture.
Mix well, chill.
Form in 1 inch balls, roll in sugar and place on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.

Bake at 350º 8 to 10 minutes.

Although grandma baked a lot of great things, we will always remember her for these cookies. They were always a part of our "pail of cookies" she would bring us before we left for our camping trip up north!
