8 Tbsp. butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. allspice or cloves
3/4 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
2 Tbsp. molasses
3 Tbsp. cornstarch

Directions:

Beat butter, shortening, sugars, baking powder, spices and salt until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses, beat well. Mix half the flour into the butter mixture. When combined,add the cornstarch and remaining flour. Divide the dough in half, flattening slightly to make a disc. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate and hour or longer. Roll dough out to 1/8-1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Bake at 350 degrees on parchment paper lined cookie sheets for 10-12 minutes until slightly brown. Brush lightly with corn syrup, honey or maple syrup thinned with water and sprinkle with sugar.

I got this recipe from King Arthur Flour. These are delicious, a light spice flavor as opposed to the heaviness of gingerbread. A very nice Christmas cookie.
