3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp salt
sugar to roll cookies in (can be plain or colored)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg and beat well. Add dry ingredients to form a dough. Form into 1" balls and roll in the sugar until coated. Place 1" apart on cookie sheet and bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes.
