Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 lb butter-flavored Crisco 3 t. baking powder
1¾ cups sugar, divided 1 t. salt
2 t. anise seed ½ cup orange juice
2 eggs, beaten 1 T. cinnamon
6 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco, sugar, and anise seed in large bowl. Add eggs and beat well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in another bowl. Alternately add flour mixture and orange juice to creamed mixture until a stiff dough is formed. Knead dough slightly and pat or roll to 1¼ to 1½ inch thickness. Cut dough into desired shapes. Combine sugar and cinnamon in a metal bowl. Dust the top of each cookie with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned,
Variations: ¼ cup of brandy can be substituted for the orange juice. More flour makes them crisper, less flour more melt-in-your-mouth.

These are a favorite of my great granddaughter, we make them together. Now that she is expecting her own daughter in March hoping she will continue this tradition. Love you Alexia.
