Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups quick rolled oats
2 palms full of salt
6 cups boiling water
1 cup Crosby’s molasses
6 tablespoons cooking oil
4 packages yeast
Flour

Directions:
Get out a large bowl. Fill the teakettle and set to boil. Put 2 1/2 cups quick rolled oats and 2 palms full of salt in bowl. When water boils, stir in 3 cups into rolled oats, then 1 cup molasses (Crosbys) then 3 more cups of boiling water. Shut off heat under teakettle - if water left have a cup of tea after you add 6 tablespoons cooking oil to oats mixture. Drink your tea while the mixture cools. You may have coffee if you prefer. When mixture gets almost lukewarm add 4 pkgs yeast. Hopefully you have stirred this mess occasionally. Test for heat by sticking clean little finger in mixture. Lap off “stuff” and wash finger again. Start adding flour until mixture gets quite thick and you think it can be kneaded. I divide it into 2 kneadings but that’s because I am becoming a little aged. Keep adding flour a little at a time until the mess will not quite go thru the fingers when held in the hand. Let it have lots of time to sit to rise, cover with a clean cloth, not the dishrag. Then know I it didn’t and form into 4 big loaves and 1 slightly smaller. Rise again, leisurely, then bake 30 minutes in 350 degree oven. The reason for the 3 cups boiling water then 1 cup molasses, then 3 cups boiling water, is so the cup gets rinsed out and you don’t waste any molasses.

Merry Christmas
