3/4 cup butter
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in a 3-4 qt saucepan over low heat.
Remove from heat and let cool.
Add sugar, molasses, and egg to the butter and beat well.
In a mixing bowl sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.
Pour the ingredients of the saucepan into the mixing bowl and mix well.
Chill uncovered in the refrigerator for 2 hours or until the dough is stiff.
Take about 1/2 tsp of the dough at a time and shape it into balls.
Roll them in sugar.
Place balls at least 2" apart on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for eight to 10 minutes.
