1\2 c. butter
1\2 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 1\2 c. flour
2 tbsp. Cream of Tartar
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. McCormick's butter extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together butter and shortening. Add sugar and continue to mix. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Stir in dry ingredients, then mix in vanilla and butter extract. Wrap dough in plastic wrap or waxed paper for several hours.
Roll out chilled dough. Cut with a variety of cookie cutters. Brush tops with milk or beaten egg whites. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and top with one nut in center.

Bake at 425º for 6-8 minutes.

Makes approximately 3-4 dozen.

Elda always made these for Christmas and used Christmas themed cookie cutters.
Roland liked them very thin with cinnamon sugar and nuts but kids decorated some with colored sugar.
