2 Cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 Sticks of Cold butter, diced into small cubes
1 Egg lightly beaten
1 Cup sugar
2 Tablespoons lemon or orange juice
Zest of either a lemon or orange of used above
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 Egg white- beaten to brush top of cookie
1/4 Cup decorating sugar - large sugar crystals
1/4 Cup chopped almonds -optional

Heat oven to 375 degrees Bake for 10-12 minutes-

**Put cookie sheets in freezer first and in between each batch cooked

Mash sugar and citrus zest and juice to create a paste - set aside

Whisk flour and baking powder, then cut in butter until small crumbs, then

Add beaten egg, then sugar zest paste, and vanilla extract

Roll into a snake shape 1&1/2 inches in diameter

Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 2 hours

Cut dough into 1/2-inch slices. Press each cookie with a fork and brush with egg white mixture and sprinkle sugar and nuts

** Putting cookie sheets in freezer keep cookies from spreading out too much
