1\2 c. butter
1 1\2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 1\2 oz. red cake coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
2 1\4 c. flour
1 1\2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Frosting:
5 tbsp. flour, packed
1 c. milk
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, sugar and egg. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring, then add to cream mixture. Mix salt and vanilla into buttermilk. Add to cream mixture. Mix alternately with flour. Add soda and vinegar. Fold into batter (Do Not Beat). Pour into 9 x13 inch cake pan.

Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes. Cool completely.

Frosting: Slowly bring to a boil flour and milk until thick, stirring constantly - taking care not to scorch and to ensure there are no flour lumps. Cool to room temperature.
Beat butter, sugar and vanilla and add to flour milk mixture. Beat to spreadable consistency.
