2 cups sugar
1½ cup shortening
1 egg
1½ cup buttermilk
1 cup molasses
3 tsps. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
7 cups flour - or enough to make a stiff easily handled dough

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together in order given - adding flour a cup at a time until a stiff dough forms. Roll out small amounts at a time on floured board and cut. Bake at 375º until firm to touch. Do not over bake or cookies will be hard. Roll thick - frost or sugar.
