1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Dates or Raisins
1 Cup Shortening
1 Cup Nuts
½ tsp. Cinnamon
½ tsp. Nutmeg
Salt
2 Eggs
2 tsp. Vanilla
2 Cups Flour
1 tsp. Baking Soda
2 Cups Oatmeal

Directions:
Directions:
Add sugar, water, chopped dates or raisins, shortening, nuts, cinnamon, and nutmeg to a medium size saucepan. Bring to a boil for 10 minutes and remove from heat. In the mean time, beat together the eggs and vanilla. Add flour, baking soda, and oatmeal to the egg and vanilla. Once the date and sugar mixture has cooled, mix with the flour and oatmeal mixture and pour onto a cookie sheet. Bake at ***º F for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
