Cucumbers (washed)
pickling spices (whole mixed)
cheese cloth
vinegar
sugar

canning lids and rings

Directions:
Directions:
1 cup salt to 1 gallon of water. Boil and pour over cukes, let stand for a week in crock . Drain pour new 1 gallon boiling water and let stand for 24 hours (now cut them in pieces). Drain and take 2 tablespoons rock alum or 3 tablespoons powdered alum to 1 gallon new boiling water. Pour over and let stand 48 hours (2 days). Drain and pour over plain boiling water until the following is hot.

PICKLING VINEGAR
1 quart vinegar --12 cups sugar. 1 package pickling spice (whole mixed) tied up in cloth bag). Boil and pour over hot for 3 mornings.. 4th morning heat all and seal in jars while hot.
