Nanny's Cocoa Cake Recipe

2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
3 egg yolks
3 sticks butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk
2 cups cocoa

Icing ingredients:
1 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
cocoa to taste
(milk to thin if wanted)

Preheat oven to 350º

Prep 2 round cake pans beforehand.
Spread crisco thickly inside of cake pans making sure to get into all of the edges of the pan, then pour enough flour into the pan so that you are able to gently rotate the pan around and the flour is spread around completely covering the pan, excess flour can be discarded, this creates a thick floured surface to help ensure the cake does not stick (cooking spray is not ideal for this cake).

In a large bowl combine the flour, baking soda, sugar, butter, vanilla, milk, cocoa, and egg yolks (make sure to only use the yolks)

Mix together until smooth, pour mixture evenly into your prepped pans.

Bake approx 20-25 minutes.

Remove cakes from the oven and set aside on wire racks to start cooling. When cakes are cooled enough to touch, begin tapping edges, and moving the cakes around inside pan to make sure the cakes are not sticking. Flip the cake over onto a flat surface to finish cooling off.

Icing:

In a large bowl combine the butter and powdered sugar, mixing together until smooth. Begin to add your cocoa into the mix, adding as you go to your taste. Milk can be added slowly a little splash as you go to thin the icing if wanted
