Part 1:
3½ pounds of peeled, seeded, and chunked ripe cucumbers (about 2 gallons)
1 gallon cold water mixed with 1 cup of lime

Part 2 (syrup):
6 cups of sugar
1½ teaspoon salt
1 quart vinegar
6 drops of clove oil
6 drops of cinnamon oil
1 teaspoon celery seed in bag

Part 1:
Pour in cucumbers. Soak 24 hours. Rinse in cold water until good and clear.

Soak in cold water for 3 to 4 hours. Drain.

Part 2:
Put half of cucumbers in red food color and other half in green. Let soak in vinegar mixture for 10 to 12 hours. Simmer until clear, about 1 hour. Seal. Will keep in unsealed jars.
