1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg yolk
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 cup flour
2 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla

Can add grated lemon peel or orange peel to the dough to vary the flavor of these cookies.

1. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolk, nutmeg, baking soda and flour- mix until blended.
2. Stir in the milk and vanilla until stiff dough forms. Chill 15 minutes if desired.
3. Roll out on lightly floured board. Cut with round cookie cutter about 2 1/2" in diameter.
4. Place on greased cookie sheet. Using a small bottle cap or round cookie cutter, cut out a decorative round just off center. With a fork, pierce all over.
5. Bake 400º F for 5-8 minutes.
