"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This recipe may need a little tweaking since there are notes Nonna Mela added to the original written recipe. They delicious cookies and are infamous. Nonna Mela would make these cookies and they were one of her favorites. She gave the recipe to a local teacher who submitted it to a national contest. We believe that this may have occurred sometime during World War II.

The "Water Cookie" won a prize and national acclaim with some prize money as well. Nonna Mela never forgot that she gave her recipe to someone else, who took credit for it and won the prize. From that day forward, Nonna Mela was somewhat secretive about her recipes and would often leave out an ingredient or two, leaving you to wonder why your recipe was not as tasty as hers.
