Version 1:
2/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 tsp. milk
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt


Version 2:
4 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. powdered sugar
2 eggs
1 c. oil
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

Version 1:
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add egg and milk and blend.

In a separate bowl combine dry ingredients and mix well. Add to wet mixture.

Divide dough in half and chill 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375º.

On floured surface roll dough 1/8" thick. Cut and then bake on greased cookie sheets 6-8 minutes.


Version 2:
Cream butters and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Blend in oil and vanilla. Gradually add dry ingredients which have been mixed together. Mix well.
Shape into 1" balls and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 350º for 10-12 minutes or until golden.
