2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. shortening or margarine
3 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
6-7 heaping teaspoons of cocoa (Hershey's)
1 cup boiling water
2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

Oven to 350º
Cream together sugar and shortening. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift dry ingredients together and add to sugar mixture, alternating with milk, stirring together thoroughly.
Fold in boiling water and add vanilla.

Bake in a greased and floured 9x13 pan for about 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean in the center.
