1C rolled oats
1 1/4C hot water
1/2C shortening
1C brown sugar
1C white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2C flour sifted with 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp soda, 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg
Topping

1/2C brown sugar
2/3C butter
1/4C canned milk
1C coconut
1C chopped nuts
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Pour 1 1/4C very hot water over 1C oatmeal. Let sit 20 minutes.
Cream until quite fluffy. 1/2C shortening, 1C brown sugar, 1C white sugar, 2 eggs.
Add Oatmeal, 1 1/2C flour sifted with 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp sods, 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2tsp nutmeg
Beat well.

Topping
Heat until hot

1/2C brown sugar
2/3C butter
1/4C canned milk
1C coconut
1C chopped nuts
1 tsp vanilla

Bake at 350º one hour.

This is a delicious cake, and the recipe comes from my Aunt Gladys' Mother in law - Grandma Preston. The recipe has been used since about 1900.
