2 ½ cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 ½ teaspoons soda
1 ½ teaspoons salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon cloves
½ teaspoon allspice
1 ½ cups applesauce, canned or fresh
½ cup water
½ cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup raisins
½ cup chopped walnuts (OPTIONAL)

Preheat oven to 350º F. Grease and flour baking pan (13"x9"x2"). Measure all ingredients into large mixing bowl and blend ½ minute on low speed, scraping the sides. Beat 3 minutes at high speed, scraping to thoroughly mix. Pour into pan. Bake 60-65 minutes, test for doneness with toothpick in the center. Done when the pick comes out clean. Cool. Can frost or serve warm, topped with whipped cream.
