6 C Raisins
2 C Water
1/2 C Shortening
3 C Sugar
6 Eggs
6 C Flour
3 C Oatmeal
3 tsp Cinnamon
3/4 tsp Cloves
1 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp Salt
3 tsp Baking soda
3 tsp Baking powder
1 C nuts, chopped, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°. In a medium saucepan, bring the water and raisins to a boil. Boil 4-5 minutes, drain, reserving 18 Tbs of the water. Cream together the shortening and sugar and then add the eggs. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt, soda and baking powder. Mix dry ingredients with creamed mixture. Add reserved water and mix well. Add oatmeal and raisins. Add nuts, if desired. Drop by teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes. This makes a big batch.
