1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon finely shredded lemon peel
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 beaten egg
3/4 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
In a small sauce pan cook and stir sugar and water until mixture comes to boiling, boil, uncovered for two minutes. Remove from heat stir in lemon peel and juice. Set aside. In mixing bowl, combine egg and milk, stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture, beat with rotary beater until smooth. In a ten inch skillet heat 1/2 in cooking oil to 360 degrees. Using a small funnel with a small spout (about 1/8 - 1/4 inches inside diameter), cover the spout opening with finger. Fill funnel with batter. Remove finger and release batter into hot oil moving the funnel to make lacy cookie that is about 2 inches wide. Fry the cookie about one minute, turning over with tongs. Lift cookie from oil, drain on paper towel. Place on wire rack.
