Personal Notes:
This “granny” for Pinney is Iva Lee Polson Pinney, Pinney’s maternal grandmother. The actual origin of the recipe according to a recipe card that Doris made was, however, Doris's grandmother and Pinney's great grandmother. Pinney remembers this from time at her grandparents' farm near Bosworth, Missouri. Iva Lee was a great cook (and seamstress) and always had candies and cookies when the family went to the Pinney farm during the holidays. Pinney remembers growing up and having “slices” of this candy, which had been formed into large logs, and left sitting on a table on the back porch outside the kitchen with other deserts. Pinney has made it some but not nearly so much as Iva Lee. It is good both with and without nuts. This is a photo of Pinney and Iva Lee at Pinney's wedding.
