2½ cups flour
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 Tbs. plus ½ tsp, baking powder
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
1 Tbs. anise extract*
1 tsp. vanilla

Icing:
1½ cups confectioner sugar
3 Tbs. milk
½ tsp. anise
1 drop food coloring
sprinkles for decorating

Directions:
Directions:
1. Beat the eggs with an electric mixer until foamy. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, confectioners sugar and baking powder. Mix on low speed, gradually add the butter and extracts until the mixture resembles crumbs.
3. Add the beaten eggs and mix until a stiff dough forms.
4. Roll dough into balls, about 1 tablespoon in size, and place about 2" apart on an ungreased baking sheet or a baking sheet with parchment paper.
5. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes. Cookies will be slightly cracked on top. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dip cookies in glaze and decorate (If you prefer a thinner icing, add more milk). Returned decorated cookies to wire rack to dry and harden.

*You can change the flavor of the cookies by changing the extract:
Orange extract and the zest of an orange
Lemon extract and the zest of a lemon
Increase vanilla extract and roll in crushed pecans
Almond extract and roll crushed almonds
