Personal Notes:
My grandma was such a good cook. She always had something good to eat that was homemade. It was usually her black raspberry pie from her black raspberry patch. She always had yummy homemade bread or her raisin cookies. She didn't follow a recipe too much. She knew what it needed and if you asked her she used "Just a scant of this or a handful of that". She tasted everything and added according to her taste.

She had Sunday dinner for our family almost every week. It was always home grown roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green salad, jello salad and her yummy homemade rolls right out of the oven. Dessert was pie and ice cream.

Grandpa Carter always gave a long and loud prayer. I was always hungry and thought he would never get through. I sure wish I could hear him again and taste and smell those rolls and pie!!

It was always so funny when they had roast lamb or lamb burgers. My Uncle John Carter was about 10 years old and always got so attached to his lambs. Uncle Neal would always tease him by telling everyone we were having John's Myrtle Burgers. John would cry and Neal would get in trouble.

One of the best things about the Carter family is that they always knew how to make work fun. Canning the corn was no exception. We all picked, shucked and cut the corn on the back porch while Grandma Vera and Sue and Trish would cook and can. All the while John and Neal were cracking jokes to make us laugh and have a good time. I was chief bottle washer when it was time because my hands were small and could get inside the bottle to wash. I always thought I was picked on, being the only girl, because I had to do the dishes most of the time. It was always a good time.
