1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
5 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, oil, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Combine flour, soda and cream of tartar and mix well. Dough will be soft. With hands, roll dough into balls a bit smaller than a walnut; roll in granulated sugar and press down with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar, a fork or a decorative cookie maker. Place on baking sheet, allowing room for spreading. Bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly brown on edges. Cool and store in an airtight container.

When Uncle Gerald and Aunt Betty lived in Florida, Uncle Gerald would make these cookies if we (Charles, the twins, and me) visited or they were visiting us. They are so good! They were his signature.
