4 c. Sugar
2 c. Whipping Cream
1/2 c. Light Corn Syrup
2 squares Unsweetened Baking Chocolate
1/2 c. Butter
1 tsp. Vanilla
Walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Boil the first 4 ingredients in a saucepan. Boil until soft ball state of 280º. Add butter or oleo the size of a walnut. Add approx 1 c. chopped walnuts. Beat a little bit more. Put into a greased 9 x 13" pan. Let set and cool, cut into small squares.

Mom's fudge was the best. It is essential you use a candy thermometer. If it is under cooked it will not set up, if it is over cooked it will crumble. This was definitely Grandma's specialty! It takes a knack, trial and error and patience. Right Amy?

I had a second recipe also called Mom's fudge that called for slightly different measurements. 2 c. sugar; 1/2 c. white syrup; 4 tsp butter; 1 c. whipping cream; 2 sq. chocolate, a little vanilla; chopped walnuts. Rest of instructions the same.

Dixie's Notes: This is a favorite of all of us. Mom always prepared it for Christmas. I like the nuts to be fairly large pieces of walnuts.
