1 c. Raisins
2 c. Flour
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/4 tsp. Ground Cloves
1 c. Shortening
1 c. Sugar
2 Eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 c. Oatmeal
1 c. Chopped Walnuts (optional)

Cover raisins with 1/2 c. hot water and simmer 10 mins. Drain reserving 1/3 cup of raisin liquid. Sift flour with soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg & cloves. In separate bowl gradually add sugar & shortening in bowl and cream. Blend in eggs, vanilla and beat well. Stir in raisins and reserved raisin water. Add sifted dry ingredients, oats and nuts. Mix thoroughly. Drop by rounded teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375º for 10-12 minutes
