Soft Ginger Cookies
1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. molasses
2 eggs
3/4 c. sour milk
4 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger


Option
You can add candy ahead of time for buttons or eyes.
Frost after baked and cooled.

Sour Milk
1 T. freshly squeezed lemon juice (or distilled white vinegar)
1 c. milk
2 tsp. baking soda
1. Place 1 T. freshly squeezed lemon juice or distilled white vinegar in glass measuring cup.
2. Add milk to equal one cup.
3. Stir and let stand for 15 minutes.
4. Measure out 3/4 c. of the sour milk and 2 tsp. baking soda to it.

1. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
2. Make sour milk (see instructions below)
3. Mix wet ingredients in a bowl.
4. Mix wet ingredients with the dry ingredients.
5. Chill for one hour (better if overnight)
6. Roll out with flour.
7. Cut with desired cookie cutter.
8. Bake at 350º for 6-8 minutes.
