2 cups sifted flour
1T. Ginger
1 tsp. Cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses

Ruth V. recipe adds 1 tsp. each of ginger, cinnamon, and vanilla and a dash of cloves.

Heat oven to 350º
Measure and mix 1st five ingredients.
Sift twice. Cream shortening and add sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. Sift dry ingredients over mixture and blend well. Form a teaspoon of dough into a ball. Roll in sugar. Bake on ungreased cooky sheet 12-15 minutes. Do not flatten
