2 c dried pinto beans, rinsed and picked over
bacon piece or some bacon fat
peanut oil
milk

Place pinto beans in slow cooker. Cover with plenty of water (older beans will soak up more water).* Put on low setting. Beans should be done in 4-6 hours.

2. When beans are done, it's time to fry them. Place bacon or bacon fat with some peanut oil in a cast iron pan. Heat over medium-high until the oil is almost smoking, then add the beans. Heat through then mash to desired consistency. Add a little milk to add creaminess, being careful not to burn it or allow it to curdle.

3. Season to taste and serve.

*Be careful with the water. Too much water = beans aren't creamy. Too little water = ick.
