3 c. All-Purpose Flour
½ tsp. Baking Soda
½ tsp. Baking Powder
½ tsp. Salt
1 c. (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 ½ c. Granulated Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
1 Large Egg
1 tbsp. Milk (room temperature)

Preheat Oven 350º

In a large bowl, sift together Flour, Baking Soda, Baking Powder and Salt. Use a whisk and blend together if you don't have a sifter.

In mixer bowl, beat Butter and Sugar until fluffy. Add the Egg, Vanilla Extract and Milk, mix until combined.

Change to paddle mixer and gradually and slowly add in the dry mixture, blend until well combined. the mixture will be thick and stick to the paddle.

Shape into a disc and wrap in plastic wrap to refrigerate 1 hour.

Take dough out of the refrigerator, lightly flour surface and tear off a piece of dough.

Roll out dough into ¼ thickness.

Cut out cookies into desired shapes. Put spare dough back with the dough ball and continue to use.

Place Parchment paper on cookie sheets and place cookies on cookie sheets.

Bake cookies 8-10 minutes, until edges are light golden.

Cook them depending on thickness of dough and how soft you want them.

Transfer to cool and then decorate as desired.

***For sharper cookie lines, after the cookies are cut into the desired shapes, put cookie sheet in freezer for 5 minutes before putting them in the oven.

Cut Out Cookies are a favorite and staple to Christmas baking, they are also very useful year round.

My mom Mary Walter loved having us kids in the kitchen helping her bake these. Just like today I love having my granddaughter with me when I am baking.

This recipe was altered by me to make the cookies a little softer on the inside and not as crunchy.
