1 c. plus 2 T. flour
6 T. sugar
6 T. brown sugar (packed)
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. baking soda
1 egg
6 T. margarine or butter- OR SUBSTITUTE CRISCO (The original had Spry)
½ tsp. vanilla
¼ tsp. water
6 oz. package of chocolate chips
Nuts if desired

*My grandmother used Spry. My mom says Crisco would be the best substitute for that in place of butter or margarine.

*Crisco shortening can replace the butter or margarine for the equal amount. In this case the 6 T.s That was the secret for the light and fluffy cookies she always made.


-Mix together softened margarine, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, water, and egg
-Add flour, salt, baking soda
-Mix well
-Add chocolate chips
-Add nuts if desired
-Spoon onto ungreased cookie sheet
-Bake at 365-375 oven for 8-10 minutes
-Remove onto wire rack to cool
