1 c. brown sugar
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening (mom used half butter; half shortening)
½ tsp. salt
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1½ soda
3 ½ c. sifted flour
½ c. chopped nuts (pecans)
1 pkg (2 c.) coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugars with shortening. Add eggs one at a time and beat after each. Add vanilla. Sift soda, salt and flour and add gradually to first mixture. Stir in nuts and coconut. Press into roll 1½ inches in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper and chill in refrigerator (can be frozen). Cut into slices ½ inch thick and bake on cookie sheet at 400º F about 10 minutes (from freezer about 12 minutes).

I love these cookies!! I know you shouldn't, but I have been known to eat a roll straight out of the freezer over a week or so time! Don't tell mom...
Grandma evidently got this recipe from the Kansas Farmer magazine and it became a family favorite of ours. One year I made MANY recipes of this and gave it to friends for a Christmas gift. Good cookies and good memories!
