Ingredients:  
1/4 c shortening
1/4 c butter
1/4 c packed brown sugar
1 egg (separated)
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 c flour
1 dash salt
3/4 c finely chopped nuts
Jelly or jam of choice

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla together.
Blend together flour and salt. Add to shortening mixture.
Roll into balls.
Beat egg white slightly with fork.
Dip balls in egg whites and roll in nuts.
Place about 1" apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Press thumb in center of ball and bake 5-6 minutes at 350.
Add jelly/jam of choice to center and bake an additional 5-6 minutes or until done.
