1 C granulated sugar
3/4 C shortening
1/4 C molasses
1 Egg
2 C all-purpose flour
2 Tsp baking soda
1 Tsp ginger
1 Tsp cinnamon
1 Tsp cloves
1/2 Tsp salt
1/4 Tsp dry mustard
1/2 C brown sugar, granulated

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º.
Beat sugar and shortening in bowl with electric beater on medium speed for 5 minutes or until light and fluffy.
Add molasses and egg, beat until blended.
Combine flour, baking soda, salt and mustard in medium bowl.
Add to shortening mixture, beat just until blended.
Place granulated sugar in shallow dish.
Shape dough into 1 " balls and roll in sugar to coat.
Place 2" apart on greased cookie sheet.
Bake 15 minutes or until lightly brown.
Cool on cookie sheets for 2 minutes and then move to wire racks.
