4 eggs, separated
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon almond extract

Filling:
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup butter
4 egg yolks
2 tablespoons corn syrup

Directions:
Directions:
Beat until stiff, 4 egg whites, cream of tartar and salt. Add sugar and almond extract. Continue beating until mixed. Drop large spoonfuls onto a brown paper lined cookie sheet. Depress center with a spoon. Bake at 250 degrees for 50 minutes. Cool. For filling, melt chocolate chips and butter in a double boiler with boiling water. Beat egg yolks and corn syrup. Add to chocolate mixture and cook and stir for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and beat until thick. Spoon into cooled meringue shells.

This recipe came from Grandma Frank and was my Mom's favorite as a girl. It's now my favorite, especially at Christmas time.
