Ingredients:  
2 cups raisins
1 cup water
Cook five minutes and cool. Add 1 teaspoon soda. Let stand while you cream:
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
3 eggs (beaten)
To this add the raisin mixture
Add:
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
To 4 cups four combine to the first mixture. Then add;
1 cup nuts (optional)
2 teaspoon Vanilla

Drop from spoon on cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for about 12 minutes
