1 Lb Ground Beef or Sausage (Optional)
1 Large Yellow Onion, Chopped
4 Cloves Garlic, Minced
1 Pkg Dried Portabella Mushrooms
1 Cup Water - To Soak the Mushrooms
1 Large Can Tomato Sauce
1 Large Can Crushed Tomatoes
1 Large Can of Tomato Paste or Purée
2 Large Cans Water (Optional)
2 Tsp basil
2 Tsp oregano
2 Tblsp Brown Sugar
¼ Tsp Baking Soda
Salt & Pepper To Taste

Directions:
Soak mushrooms in one cup cold water for approximately one hour.

If you have made meatballs, pour the remaining juice into a bowl and set aside. Use the seasoned pot to start making your tomato sauce. (Tip – you can also use a crockpot to reduce mess).

Cook onion and garlic over medium heat until limp (approximately five minutes).

After mushrooms have soaked, chop them up and add them along with the water into the pot

Add remaining ingredients. Cook over low heat for about one hour.

If you have made meatballs, add them and the leftover juice into the pot.

Cook over low heat for two more hours or until ready to serve.
