Cookie:
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp nutmeg

Frosting:
1 cup confectioners sugar
¼ tsp cream of tartar
3 T water
¼ tsp vanilla
¼ tsp almond extract

Christmas sprinkles, chocolate chips, red hots, etc. anything to decorate the cookies.

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg. Sift flour, baking soda, nutmeg. Mix both mixtures together.
Chill thoroughly.
Roll out a small amount of dough using as little flour as possible. Roll out to ⅛ inch thick. Cut with floured cookie cutters.
Place on greased cookie sheet 1 inch apart. Bake 425 for 8 minutes.
Frost when cool.

Frosting:
Combine confectioners sugar and cream of tartar.
Combine water, vanilla, and almond extract.
Add all together and stir until smooth.
Add food coloring as needed.

Grandma Orla Brender, Cathy, Patty, and Ann would make these EVERY Christmas. I believe we made double batches. We would spend the whole afternoon decorating each cookie.
