Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup Sugar
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
¼ cup molasses
1 egg
2¼ cup All purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. ginger
½ tsp. cloves
¼ tsp. nutmeg
¼ cup Sugar

Frosting (don't skip this step!):

4 cup powdered sugar
3-4 T. milk
2 T. butter, softened
2 tsp. almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
In large bowl, combine sugar, butter, molasses & egg. Beat until light and fluffy.
Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg. Mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour for easier handling. We generally skip the refrigeration step.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in sugar, then place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-12 minutes. Cookies will puff up, then flatten during baking.
Do not overcook- they should have a crinkle texture and be soft. After 2 minutes of cooling on the cookie sheet, transfer to a cooling rack.

For Frosting:

In medium bowl, combine all frosting ingredients.
Beat until smooth.
Spread each cooled cookie with frosting.
